Use enhanced SAINT functions in CRM ADDON MANAGER

Symptom

You want to install or update an add-on in a CRM system and, at the same time, include Support Packages or modification adjustment transports for this add-on in the queue. The special CRM Add-On Manager used in CRM systems (transaction ADDON_MANAGER) does not allow this.

Reason and Prerequisites

The CRM Add-On Manager (transaction ADDON_MANAGER) is a wrapper of the Standard Add-On Installation Tool (transaction SAINT), which ensures that CRM-specific preparation and follow-on actions are carried out during the installation or upgrade of an add-on. Consequently, enhanced functions of the Add-On Installation Tool are not easy to use.

Solution

SAP is working on eliminating the restrictions in CRM systems. Since this is a develepment project, we cannot specify a date for the general availability.
Use the following workaround in the meantime:
1. Start the CRM ADDON_MANAGER as usual and start the installation process.2. Select the add-on to be installed/upgraded and execute all the steps of the ADDON_MANAGER as usual.3. After the CRM-specific preparation actions have been processed, the ADDON_MANAGER jumps to the Standard Add-On Installation Tool (SAINT) to start the technical import process. Choose “Cancel” to cancel the import process on the confirmation dialog box.4. Choose “Back” to delete the current installation/upgrade queue. Choose “Yes” to confirm the confirmation dialog.5. You are now on the add-on selection dialog of SAINT. Select the add-on that was previously selected in the ADDON_MANAGER (select it in the selection column) and choose “Continue”.6. From the following Support Package selection dialog, you can select the desired target Support Package for the add-on and choose “Continue”.7. The calculated queue can be checked on the next dialog box. If everything is correct, the process continues with “Continue”.8. If desired, modification adjustment transports can be selected on the next selection dialog and added to the queue. The process again continues with “Continue”.
Note:The online documentation of the Add-On Installation Tool describes the selection steps in detail in the unit “Installing and Upgrading Add-Ons with the Add-On Installation Tool”.9. The technical import process then begins if you choose “Import” to exit the confirmation dialog box. Since the CRM-specific preparation actions have already been processed, the technical import can be started directly.10. After the technical import process is successfully completed, you return to the ADDON_MANAGER (automatically or by calling the transaction), you execute the CRM-specific follow-on actions as usual there, and finish the installation process.
